Safe Disposal

SAJB wants you to know how to safely dispose of unused, expired or unwanted medicines. DO NOT flush over the counter medications or pharmaceuticals down toilets or pour down drains. Water quality in the SVRP Aquifer and Spokane River may be affected, especially if your house has a septic system.

Secure medications in plastic bags and dispose at any of the four transfer stations in the Household Hazardous Waste section, free of charge:

  • Valley Transfer Station – 3941 N. Sullivan Road
  • Waste to Energy Facility – 2900 S. Geiger Blvd
  • North County Transfer Station – 22123 Elk-Chattaroy Road
  • University Transfer Station – 2405 N. University Road

Spokane City and County residents may place pharmaceutical waste in residential garbage cans for curbside pickup and incineration.

Cities of Liberty Lake, Spokane Valley and Cheney may take medical waste to the hazardous waste disposal at the University and Cheney transfer stations.
