  • Resolution 2001-03 creating an incentive program for Aquifer Protection Implementation Projects.
  •  Resolution 2001-04 authorizing an agreement with the YMCA and RSVP for services associated with the Household Hazardous Waste Committee.

1)    Water Rights bills:SB 5100  – Expediting the processing of pending applications relating to existing water rights. SB 5267 – Allowing an application for a change of an existing water right in a more timely manner. SB 5968 – Provides guidelines for adding products to public drinking water systems: a) substances must first be approved by USFDA b) product must first be tested to assure that any complex combination of its elements break down into harmless components c) no pesticides or hazardous wastes can be added to public drinking water supplies.

2)  Internet access to state legislative business:  www.leg.wa.gov

 3) Washington Citizen’s Advisory Committee (WCAC) – 1/25/01 meeting was discussion of incorporation by-laws, board members.  Will receive Ecology grant, amount unknown.  Remediation Investigation (RI)- documents our for review until March 12. Feasibility Study (FS) – comment period closes March 12, Record of Decision expected end of 2001 or 2002.

 4) Friends of the Aquifer – still waiting for word from Surface Transportation Board re:  whether they will claim oversight of BNSF RR and construction of refueling depot over Spokane-Rathdrum Aquifer.

 5)    MANY thanks to Steve Skipworth, Gail Gibson, Bob Ashcraft, Doub Babin, and Ty Wick for answering so many questions from so many half pints at the Vera/SAJB booth at Sunrise Elementary Science Fair February 6th.

 6)   All are welcome to attend Friday, February 23rd, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. @ Vera – final round of interviews for Media Services firm.

 7)   “Sculpted by Floods” airing on Channel 7 Friday February 23rd @ 9:00 p.m. – a locally produced version of the ice age floods that formed the Spokane-Rathdrum Aquifer and the central basin channeled scablands.
