- ProActive Business – sent 272 thank you/award letters+ window decal to businesses participating in the Ecology/SAJB Technical Assistance visits Summer 200; looking for additional intern to fund
- Potential Contaminant Source Inventory – delivery of maps and database to last District; Preview draft of bi-annual letter to businesses over Aquifer; once final list established, a ranking system will be determined
- Household Contaminant Disposal – less than 1 dozen calls to pick-up hotline thus far; Spring Greening rec’d 500+
- Education & Awareness – summary letter from KDK ONE digital media; provision of SAJB fact sheets and ‘bumper sticker’ to 250 Spokane Youth Environmental Conference; Earth Day booth presence Saturday, April 20th
- Program Leader Report – Julia McHugh
a) DOT response to road sign request – revised design suggestions (available at SAJB meeting)
b) Watershed Resource Inventory Analysis WRIA – review Memorandum of Agreement & Decision Making Process for Plan Recommendations; proceeding with contract for Step A of Little Spokane River Instream flow work
c) Washington Citizens Action Committee – Next meeting Thursday April 25th, Corbin Senior Center, 827 W. Cleveland, 6:30 Board meeting, 7:30 presentation on the Spokane Aquifer and River System by Bryony Hansen, Golder Associates; 8:00 presentation on Spokane River and Aquifer Interchange by Rod Caldwell, USGS
d) Emergency Response Agencies – request from SAJB to be included on call-down list. Added to Ecology local list for spill response; Combined Communications Center participating districts feel Dept. of Ecology contact is adequate; have been added to County Emergency Services call-down list.
e) Appeal to Growth Management Board by Gene Cohen, The Nut Factory, asking that Spokane County be directed to classify the eastern end of Spokane County and specifically Otis Orchards as a “critical area” which therefore should be included in the Sewer Priority Area. Have Spokane County recognize this area has needs to have “public facilities” such as sanitary sewer systems established to protect the aquifer. f) AWWA Research Foundation studying the Benefits of Wellhead Protection Programs – seeking 10 representative case studies of existing WPPs – inquiry from researcher 4/18.
g) Groundwater Foundation – accepting award nominations for individual citizen, educator, and an elected or appointed public official who has significantly advanced environmental and groundwater stewardship. Nominations due July 14, 2002.
